Quite often when I say "Mirror mirror on the wall"
it's aptly followed by "I am my mother after all." But this time when I say
Mirror Mirror, I'm referring to the delightful modern day spin of the fairytale
Snow White in film form featuring Julia Roberts, Lily Collins and Armie Hammer by director Tarsem Singh.
And as with anything either I'll talk about fashion or...? And this film was chock full of it!
Let' just say that costume designer Eiko Ishioka was on point. If there was a way that I could express my intense desire to wear each and every costume in this movie, I would. But alas, that is where my prose falls short of my adoration.
When watching the film, all I could think about was:
"This says McQueen all over it." And indeed, the late Ishioka has worked with the fashion house along with the costuming on several other films, whose designs form the fall/ winter collection are strongly reminiscent of Prince Alcott's costume. But after some research, I was confusing Marc Jacobs with AMcQ!
Although here is an AMcQ photo circa 2001 (Courtesy of the travel blog Alice in Words) Somewhat Alice In Wonderland-esque?
But here is the final walk from the Marc Jacobs collection F/W 2012:
And below is the Prince Alcott's hat at the ball:
He's such a cheeky fellow...
No wait, that's a cat...hold on.
Something about bunny being cunning and after the chase? Ok Julia Roberts. I won't reveal the plot, but Snow White isn't the only royal after this eyecandy:
(P.S. the actor, Armie Hammer, is already married! I just checked on IMDb.)
Julia Robert's character was delightfully evil. I just said that, delightfully evil. I mean, if she wasn't trying to kill Snow White throughout the entire film, she and I would be best buddies so I could borrow her wardrobe. Well, I'd still be her friend nonetheless... But her best consume was her wedding gown:
And ala the press release, the queen's dresses were outfitted with 100,000 Swarovski Elements . And take if from a girl who had several dozens on a pageant gown, my seamstress tells me they're no easy task to glue on!
And finally, Snow White. All of her costumes were spot on, even as a rebel leading the Seven Dwarfs into battle:
But as much as the film is a departure from the traditional fairy tale, Snow White's wedding dress is also a delightful departure from the norm:
SO MANY PLEATS!
But I like it!
And she bears a striking resemblance to Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday:
And the tiara *SIGH* from Van Cleef & Arpels ala 1976
For more info on the tiara, go to: Brides.com
And the rest of Snow's AH-amazing costumes:
There's a ball of course!
Then she fences in a gown. What most don't understand is, you can do just about anything you set your mind to while wearing a gown and heels. Spoken from experience.
Downtime clothing, gorgeous!
And this cape went over the gown above! So gorgeous!
More of the wedding party consumes
And Kristen Stewart is making another adaptation of Snow White in the near future:
This right here is not ok. I'm not sure which one I dislike more: a masculine telling of this fairy tale, Kristen Stewart's lack of acting skills, the poorly written sci-fi novel by Stephanie Meyer that will not be named on this blog, or the even worse movie adaptation of it? I wish I could write rubbish and make millions? I'll venture to state that I probably have at minimum a vehement dislike of all of the above, and no less.
Anywho, enough of that. But I entreat you to go see the film, Mirror Mirror, which opened last night :)
Till soon much love,
SouFa <3
