What to get my BEAU?
Funny, because Metro Retro Apparel has an idea, BOW ties! (Hahaha play on words!) There's nothing like a sharply dressed guy in a bow tie! Or any tie for that matter!
Featured in the likes of GQ the Chicago Sun-Times, we were excited to sit down for an interview with the NYC designer Kamrul Hasan:
What inspired you to create a line of men's accessories?
Well I started designing at age of 14 but of course, not ties. As a teenager I used to like wearing and creating unique items that no one else would wear. So, basically I wanted to be cool among friends wearing a unique items.
I would rip my jeans and add different color fabrics or I would spray some paints to make it look one of a kind, add some metals vintage buttons to my jackets.
I developed my love for men’s fashion when I started working for a Luxury Custom Clothing Company on Madison Avenue in New York City back in 2001 “Addison On Madison”.
After graduating from college with graphic design degree and minor in photography my love for fashion evolved into a passion to outfit the sartorially conscious man, and Metro Retro Apparel was born.
If you could describe your line or brand with 5 adjectives or less, what would they be?
Superb Quality , Handcrafted, Limited Quantity, Locally Made
If you were to cite a muse or a source of inspiration for your line who/what would it be?
My inspiration comes from past, as our brand name says metro retro, basically brings the retro style in to the metro.
Plaids, gingham, checks always has been my favorite, but would love to make some accessories from hand weaved wools.
Of course, Men’s accessories and Love NYC.
Who in the fashion world, past or present, is your ultimate role model?
I don’t really have a role model but love I admire Ralph Lauren
Which trends in men's fashion or in general are you excited about for spring?
Well in general, I love spring. Awesome weather don’t have to put too much around you. Great time to dress up and walk around the city..Beautiful colors.
Well I wasn’t sure I would be designing accessories but I always had passion for fashion, and always wanted to work for [a] top fashion label.
Now beside designing accessories for men, I am a photographer, I love capturing images that remind me the exact moments. I am in love with black and white photography.
Of your personal wardrobe, what is your favorite item of clothing?
Shoes, big fan shoes and boots, vest, bright colored scarf, and of course a skinny tie.
Who typically wears your clothing?
Guys who want to look unique and standout from the crowd, I love making ties that are fun and carry a personality with it.
Most of my accessories lovers are young men. Ages between 18-40 but that doesn’t mean nobody at 50 won’t wear my tie. I had one great customer when working for Addison On Madison. He was 70 plus. But his sense of style and color was amazing.
Some ladies started to wear my ties as well. I also have some ladies that loves my polka dots and leather ties.
